I Found My People
I first fell in love with Third Eye Blind when I was a bright-eyed, precocious 16 year old who thought I knew everything.
I loved alternative music and could often be found in my room blasting Green Day, Weezer, or Sublime through the speakers of the stereo my father had bought me.
I remember taping the songs I loved off of the radio.
It was during one of these taping sessions that I first heard “Semi-Charmed Life” and I was hooked! I taped “Semi” off of the radio and listened to it over and over again until I finally went out and bought the CD.
Once I had the self-titled CD in my possession I listened to it nonstop, I learned the words to all of the songs, and watched or read everything I could about the band, and I also developed my first crush on a celebrity; but what 16 year old girl didn’t have a crush on Stephan Jenkins! There was something about Third Eye Blind and their music that spoke to me in a way that surpassed the other bands, I felt like I connected to them on a higher level.
As the years went on, I continued to love the band and their music, often going back to the comfort of the self-titled CD during tough times. I grew to appreciate other bands and went to other concerts, but Third Eye Blind was always in my CD player. I didn’t realize it at the time, but their music was slowly becoming the soundtrack of my life.
This summer when I went to the Summer Gods Tour, my love for the band was renewed and taken to a new level. Hearing all of the songs from the self-titled CD live solidified my passion and appreciation for Third Eye Blind, lead me to make connections with other fans that have the same enthusiasm for the band, and set Third Eye Blind as the soundtrack to my life.
Before “Summer Gods” I didn’t realize how many other people have Third Eye Blind running through their veins, and now I am lucky enough to have connected with so many of these people.
In the past, when I went to a concert I always bought seats, feeling intimidated by the pit. For the Fall of The Summer Gods Tour, I happily found my way into the pit and had an amazing experience! I am so unbelievably lucky to have “found my people” and I am never looking back!
Just in case you were wondering, I still own that original CD and listen to it all of the time; Third Eye Blind’s music has no expiration date!
