Why am I such a Misfit?
Stephan Jenkins has said, “I’ve never felt like I was part of a crowd at all; I always felt like... I was on the outside of the glass somehow. And that’s what I write about, and I write for the people who feel that way as well...” Songs contain lyrics like, “I never fit in, I don’t belong,” and fans have grabbed onto words like “misfit” and “exile” to label themselves and their life experiences. Third Eye Blind has phrases that echo throughout our community like “the gathering power of music” and being “together as one” when we bond over their music because we can see our awkward, wounded selves reflected in our peers. This is why the music hits so deep and why we proudly declare them as our favorite band.
Recently, 3eb Expert Ryan Spitzer decided to echo this sentiment in a letter to Stephan with a throwback to The Breakfast Club because, through these songs and experiences, we find we are all more alike than we would have known without them.
