Amber Mugan’s Bonfire

Third Eye Blind is often credited with playing the soundtrack to one’s life.

As fans, we share stories with one another about the songs and albums that have helped us get through major life events and transitions.

This week, Amber Mugan shares her 3EBink with us and sums up how Bonfire played a role in her journey towards self acceptance.

It’s very clear in my memory when I first heard Third Eye Blind. As a kid, they were my mom’s favorite band, so it was always played in the car, and at home. At the time, I had no clue what the meaning of any of their songs was, but as I grew older, they became a part of me, and who I was. I was inspired to get my tattoo. Now, there are many songs and lyrics that I connect with, however, this one felt right for me. I had wanted this one for a while, but it just now finally felt like the right time to get it.

You can ask pretty much anyone that knows me, and they will tell you my obsession with 3eb isn’t a small one, and for good reason. Third Eye Blind songs have been a go to for me during so many stages of my life. It seems like they have a song that can speak to you personally during whatever you are going through. This was the first band that got me listening to the lyrics [and the meanings behind songs]

Ursa Major came out when I was in college, the album Bonfire is on. I was so excited when this album came out, but this song especially spoke to me because everything was changing in my life. It took me a few years to get this tattoo because, to me, it means that you are finally accepting who you are and owning up to your mistakes.

I was in a very long relationship with my high school sweetheart. He was my first love. It was the kind of thing where we were just destined to break each other’s hearts, no matter what we did. After that, I jumped right into some not-so-healthy relationships, but all the while, I never really took the time to learn who I really was, what I wanted, or accept the mistakes I had made.

Of course, listening to Third Eye Blind, you have your empowering songs, your [obvious] heartbreak songs, and your “I will always love you” songs, so I was able to feel all my emotions with my favorite band. And I attended every concert of theirs in my home state!

But Bonfire, and this tattoo, and these past two years…

I have finally been working on myself. This tattoo was for ME. It has taken me a while to work through everything and Third Eye Blind has always been there. Now I know who I am and I can confidently say that when I couldn’t before. That’s what this tattoo means to me and why it took me some time to get it. I needed some time to find myself. When you do find yourself, it’s a beautiful thing, and in my case, can be celebrated with a tattoo from my favorite band!

Finally got my tattoo, and I love it! 😍 #3ebbonfire #3eb #thirdeyeblind
