Ten Years Down With Amoeba
Ten Years Down With Amoeba....
March 16, 2018
As the weekend came near for my ten year wedding anniversary, so did the Amoeba show showcasing Stephan Jenkins.
I wasn't planning on going only because I was more focused on a weekend trip up north to Reno. However plans took a turn when the heavy snow conditions decided our fate for the beginning of the weekend. So I headed to the bay while my wife went to work...
There I was in the middle of it all, the first few rows of the greatest Third Eye Blind fans ever. The Lifestyle family was in full effect showing up from many distances away. On that day, there wouldn't be any other place I would rather be. I was about to get my annual fix of seeing Stephan Jenkins, the Magic Man, himself. Of course I had to say hello to everyone, meet new friends, and give a big Godzilla sized hug to birthday girl, Liseli.
Stephan came out wearing a coat with fur on it which looked like the anniversary gift I got for my wife. He was also sporting some designer shoes that were bright yellow. I thought to myself that maybe he was thinking of his biggest Asian fan when he wore it! I was quite surprised to see a handful of Asians making it out to the show. It was a short yet intimate set of songs. His strumming was precise and badass, and it inspired me to pick up my guitar again. We didn't hear anything new, but hearing him play Palm Reader was a breath of fresh air even though he might have forgotten some of the lyrics! The most beautiful moment was when he played a tribute to his mother with Monotov.
Afterwards everyone lined up to get the live vinyl signed. After about a half hour of waiting in line and chatting with friends, I went up there. We shook hands firmly and immediately I asked if he is writing new material, to which he said yes and I will leave it at that. I brought my 3eb lifestyle birthday book which had a picture of me and SJ. He signed it and also signed the back of “The Summer Gods” tour vinyl I bought. I told him how sorry I was to hear about his mother and how I had visited my mom the week after the Philly show, gave her a big hug and told her how much I loved her. My mom knows how much 3EB means to me in my life. Twenty years is a long time to be maintaining that kind of loyalty and dedication to one band. SJ will always be my role model. There it was. My 3EB fix so far for 2018
