There's Something In You, Robyn
This week for 3eb Ink we are talking to Expert Robyn Santiago.
We talk about how she came to love 3eb, her bond with her brother, her tattoo with lyrics from the song “Something In You,” and plans for some future ink.
Brittney Chamberlain: Tell me about your love of the band. When did you first become a fan? Did you grow up as a die hard fan? Can you pick a favorite album?
Robyn Santiago: I’ve been a fan since at least 2005. I was 15 when I discovered just how great Third Eye Blind is. My brother (shown in the photos with me) introduced me to the band with the Blue album. I like to think I was die hard from that day forward. My favorite album right now is Dopamine. That changes from time to time but right now I'm super sprung off Dopamine. There was a time when I only knew and listened to self titled and Blue until I went to the Dopamine tour did I really discover everything else. It's been my fave ever since.
BC: What’s the story behind the tattoo? Can you fill us in on what the song means to you? Were you in the throes of a major life event or transition? Was there any significant timing to your tattoo?
RS: I had been contemplating getting a lyric line tattooed ever since I saw 3eb in San Jose. That show really moved me and I knew they meant enough to me to get it inked. I went with "I'll take you in no matter what your chaos brings.” It's somewhat of a promise to myself to always stay consistent and true no matter the circumstance. I have always been a loyal person so family, friends, pets, everyone I come in contact with really. It's one thing I truly value about myself. I like to think it's a gift to be able to withstand any situation no matter how chaotic. It also has a deeper meaning for my brother. The love we share for the band together is unlike anything else we share. He has lead a difficult life but he's my best friend. It's a promise to him that I'll always be there. “Something In You” is such an uplifting song. To me, it's about knowing someone has what you admire. I've always admired my brother and always will. There was nothing in the timing of the tattoo. I just really wanted it and finally decided on a lyric line. There was way too many choices so I'd been brainstorming for a while.
BC: If you could ask Stephan one question, what would it be?
RS: I don't have a specific question that I would ask Stephan. I would really have to think about it. I think I would just thank him for continuing to make music for us. I would probably tell him he's my idol. Maybe a question would spark up at the moment. I'm hopefully going to meet him in March so I'll think of something.
BC: I love seeing the different ideas and visions that fans with tattoos come up with. Do you plan to get more 3eb ink?
RS: When deciding on what lyric line to get, it was between the one I got and "when she lets herself go, it's like no one you'll ever know.” I still want to get that line somewhere. I think I want to incorporate it into the chest tattoo that I plan on getting later on. If and when I meet Stephan, I want him to sign my arm and get that tattooed as well. So I guess my question to him could be, “will you sign my arm?”
