Interview: Stephanie Gardea
This week’s Expert, Stephanie Gardea, bakes some great SJ cookies, is super sweet and has a love for Third Eye Blind that dates back to her youth....
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions, Stephanie, it was nice meeting you last week!
Janelle Morrow Third Eye Blind fans are all ages, some are brand new and some have been there since day one. How long have you been "in the blind?”
Stephanie Gardea: I was around 9 when ST came out. My older brother had purchased the album and naturally I stole it and listened to it as well. I fell in love with the album and of course Stephan. I was a boy-crazy pre-teen, I am still crushing on him just as hard as I did nearly 21 years ago!
JM: Is there one particular 3eb concert that stands out to you from all the others? Why?
SG: The Summer Gods Berkeley show will forever stand out in my mind. I had been a casual fan for all these years but had never really thought to see them live. I attended the show with my older brother and my boyfriend, who is also a big fan. There was something in the air that night. The feeling of being alive rushed through my entire body and I just felt so happy in that moment in time. After that show, I couldn't stop thinking about it and feeling so sad it was over. I knew I had to see them again! It felt like a drug, I'm hooked and I never want to miss a chance to see them on tour again.
JM: You’re trapped in an elevator for 1 hour with Stephan Jenkins and he offers to play you two songs… what would they be?
SG: Only one hour?! I'd love for him to play Faster and maybe Something In You. Ask me another day, it would probably be two very different songs but I've been listening to these lately and absolutely love them!
JM: What is the greatest thing that being a fan has brought into your life?
SG: Hands down, new friendships. To find other people who are just as nuts or even more nuts about the band than me is so amazing! I do hate all the cliquey shit that goes on at shows but I try to avoid it and just enjoy the show.
JM: If you could travel with one member of the band, who would you choose? Where would you like to go?
SG: Of course I'd pick Stephan… we would go somewhere beachy and tropical. I love his spirit and thirst for life, I feel like he'd be able to lead the way on new adventures and show me things I've never seen or experienced. *sigh*
