Interview: Ian Shannon
Tatiana: Tell me a little about yourself.
Ian: I'm 29, from Pennsylvania. I'm definitely one of the newer experts. It's a little intimidating sometimes when others have been diehard fans for 20 years, but honestly everyone is so welcoming that it rarely comes up.
T: Tell me about your first 3EB show. What was it like?
I: My first show was 10/16/2015 at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ. A close friend was a huge 3EB fan and I went to the show with her. I really hadn't thought about Third Eye Blind for a long time, so I didn't know any of the new songs. It was really after that show that I became a super fan.
T: What 3EB song means the most to you? Why?
I: “Something In You” is always special to me because it sort of speaks to the relationship I had with a very close friend who I don't talk to anymore. Also, “Slow Motion” - not sure why.
T: What is your favorite interaction with the band? Why?
I: At the Fillmore Silver Spring last December, Amy Coleman, Donna Smits and I were by the bus when Brad and Kopp walked up. I had never met any of them at that point so it was very surreal. They were both super gracious, though and Brad later thanked Amy for the snacks and drinks we brought them.
T: What's your favorite song(s) to hear live? Why?
I: I really like “Wounded” live. I love hearing everyone scream along with SJ, "back down the bully to the back of the bus / cause it's time for them to be scared of us.”
T: If you could have dinner with one member of the band, who would you choose?
I: I think I would pick Brad, he seems like he would be the easiest to talk to.
T: What is your favorite 3EB album? Top 3 songs?
I: I have such a hard time picking a favorite anything, 3EB-related or not. I've been listening to We Are Drugs a lot, I think “Weightless” is probably my top song from WAD right now. Other top songs in no particular order:
- Something In You
- Slow Motion
- Can You Take Me
This list will probably change completely if you ask me again.
T: Best 3EB show? Why was it the best for you?
I: Definitely the 12/8/2016 show at the Fillmore Silver Spring. It was the first time I met the band as I mentioned above, and then we got M&G through the radio station so we met SJ & Brad (again). This was also the first show I went to after getting involved in the FB groups and getting to know other fans, so it was awesome to see a show together with Amy and Donna.
T: Where is your preferred spot when on rails? Why?
I: So far I've always seemed to end up Kryz-side, but that wasn't necessarily intentional. I'll take any spot on the rails I can get.
