Interview: Kim Comer
Interview: Bella Wolf , Editor Janelle Morrow
Kim Moody describes herself as walking with the wounded.
She loves Third Eye Blind more than anything. She believes in Third Eye Blind and their music, their music has helped her get through some very difficult times in her life. It allows her to be herself and not hide. “They are her happy”.
Bella Wolf: If you got to have a sit down (non-date) meal and conversation with any member of the band, who would you choose?
KM: I absolutely love that it’s noted in the question as a non date. I would choose Kryz. I mean come on he’s Irish, & a picture that was posted a while back totally made me think of the fella from Wedding Crashers. He played the brother to Isla Fisher & ever since then Kryz has been amusing. Plus I’d want to hear what Irish jigs he knows!
Have you had a major point in your life that 3eb has helped you through it and how?
KM: I think of the word vacillated: to waver in mind or opinion; be indecisive or irresolute: to sway unsteadily; waver; totter; stagger, to oscillate or fluctuate....I've had a few major points in my life that 3eb music comforted me. In my other post Wounded I go into the detail about my rape. That alone left me with gaping wounds inside and out. I was a ghost of a girl that was nothing but mechanical. The other major points I've gone through are an ectopic miscarriage that caused me to bleed internally and nearly killed me, putting me in the hospital for four days. A year ago I suffered an early miscarriage which led to having to get a total hysterectomy.
This alone left me with a robot heart. I've stayed tethered to the past and the life I will never have. I'm currently reeling in and licking my wounds of my husband and I separating. We've developed into a triangle, I've learned that having someone you love emotionally cheat on you with your step sister is a tide. 3eb is the soundtrack to my life. Each album has something that pertains to a struggle, a loss, a love, insecurity, losing & finding myself. My anthem will always be Wounded & Good Man, but lately I'm discovering Don't Give In & I'm a queen of daydreams is my band aid.
BW: If the band offered to let you perform with them, what part would you want to play? What songs would you want to sing?
KM: I want to play the hell out of that Jamboree, soo bad! I've told my sister that my make a wish is to play the jamboree with them. I'd want to sing them all! I can't carry a tune for shit but I can fucken sing/yell/scream and dance my ass off.
The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 was awarded to Bob Dylan "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition". He was the first musician honored. A lot of Third Eye Blind fans love the music in large part because of Stephan’s lyrics. Why do you think that is?
KM: I think fan's love Stephan's lyrics because there's nothing shallow about the songs. Each one is descriptive and has you feeling the longing of unrequited love, pain, angst, sex, desire, etc. His lyrics to me are so well said and orchestrated down to the science and strategic placement. Knowing that some songs have been created with such ease and others more time is just amazing to see what comes out of it. Everything Is Easy and Dopamine are two songs that were originally just one. I absolutely love The Beach Boys & in a way Stephan Jenkins reminds me of Brian Wilson in a methodical way with how they've written and performed. I think both bands haven't gotten the attention they've deserved for the lyrics, chorus and instruments.
BW: If you could travel with one member of the band, who would you choose? Where would you like to go?
KM: I'd roll the dice and try traveling with any of them and hope to god they don't have any disgusting habits like biting their toe nails. A more definitive answer would simply be whomever would let me play and possibly have the jamboree for keeps. As far as where I'd like to go, I think it'd be fun to visit the places F. Scott Fitzgerald & Zelda went to. I'm in love with Outlander, I'd love to go to Scotland and visit where the Culloden Battlefield took place.
BW: You’re trapped in an elevator for 1 hour with Stephan Jenkins and he offers to play you two songs… what would they be?
KM: Honestly, I'd ask him to play me The Beach boys God Only Knows, and Then I Kissed Her. He has a voice that can sing anything in a handful of different ways, he could do his rap and make it sound amazing. I'd explain that these songs will give him the challenge he needs and out of his comfort zone vocally, plus I think the chorus on these two songs are up his alley.
BW: If you found a magic Third Eye Blind Lamp, and a semi-charmed genie popped out, and you could make three Third Eye Blind related wishes, what would they be?
- Always see them perform with my sisters as the three of us love their music.
- Play the jamboree on stage while they performed and keep it after I got their autographs on it
- I would love to see them in the studio/sound check/recording with my sisters
