White Supremacists, Nuclear War, Pardon of a Racist, Hurricanes, Dreamers, Woke AF Generation, and Always Russia

“I am all for the good fight and if the cops roll by let the colors go blind, say hey the kids are alright”

August 12, 2017 was my 55th birthday. As I laid down to sleep that night I cried for the life lost earlier in the day during a White Supremacist’s rally in Charlottesville, PA.

How could this be happening? I’ve already lived through a fight for civil rights.

I know racism still exists and I know we still have far to go but really, a KKK rally? This is unbelievable to me and they no longer hide their faces under a white sheet because this is acceptable behavior to so many. What has brought this drastic change? Donald J. Trump. The blood of Heather Heyer is on the little hands of Donald J. Trump. His constant rhetoric has given permission to the racists to rise and “take their country back.” I’m sickened by him on a daily basis, but more on that later. Also on my mind as I tried to sleep that night was fear of a nuclear attack. Would I wake up to find that the “Supreme Leader” Kim Jong-un had fired a nuclear warhead at Guam while I slept? Would we be at war? I haven’t had this type of fear since I was a child. I grew up in Oklahoma in the 60s and 70s. I remember the Cold War, the fight for civil rights, my mother crying when Robert Kennedy was assassinated, Watergate hearings and the Vietnam War clips on the nightly news. As a society and human beings, why are we going backwards? Again, I answer Donald J. Trump. He doesn’t have the ability to not engage in what comes down to a pissing contest with a dangerous leader with nuclear weapons. What the fuck? Seriously, WTF?

August 25, 2017 Donald J. Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, an Arizona sheriff convicted of criminal contempt related to his racial profiling targeted at undocumented immigrants. Basically, if you were brown you were getting pulled over and asked for papers. No broken taillight needed, only the color of your skin. Even after he was court ordered to stop his racial profiling; he continued. Again, Donald J. Trump plays to his base and gives rise to the racist and tells them it is okay to target a particular race. Other than being an unprecedented pardon since Arpaio had not yet been sentenced it also gives a not so subtle message to those involved in the Russian Collusion investigation. Don’t worry, I’ll pardon you.

Hurricane Harvey makes landfall on August 25th and massive flooding in Houston by August 27th, 2017. According to National Weather Service (NWS) tweet on August 27th, “This event is unprecedented and all impacts are unknown and beyond anything experienced. Follow orders from officials to ensure safety.” Later on the same day NWS tweets “Dangerous heat is impacting a large area of the western U.S. and will continue all week. Take breaks if outside!” Next up, September 5, 2017 NWS tweets, “Learn how to protect yourself from wildfire smoke emergency.cdc.gov/disasters/wild” and later the same date, “#IRMA is the strongest #hurricane in the Atlantic basin outside of the Caribbean Sea & Gulf of Mexico in NHC records.” So to sum it up, we’ve had two record breaking hurricanes, have extreme heat warnings and multiple fires throughout the country, most in the west. Now is anybody other than me thinking just maybe this has something to do with Global Warming/Climate Change, whatever you want to call it - just recognize that it’s happening. I know that Donald J. Trump does not believe in Climate Change because he tweeted on November 6, 2012, “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” Interesting tweet for more than just the denial of global warming but the fact Trump was actually having his products made in China. Hypocrite, much?

Stephen Jenkins recently tweeted “...climate change denial = gross negligence.” Agree!

If you are reading this, it is my hope that you believe in global warming and do not need to be convinced. Just in case you do need convincing I recommend the following articles and/or websites:

September 5, 2017, Donald J. Trump was too cowardly to give the speech on his quest to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or what is commonly referred to as Dreamers. He had his sleazy Attorney General Jeff Sessions deliver the speech on why it’s unconstitutional to allow the Dreamers to stay. Dreamers are children that were brought to the United States by their undocumented parents, at no fault of their own. The end of DACA can result in youth being deported to countries they have never known. This is their home and they should be allowed to stay. I’m extremely passionate about this because it is obviously wrong, but I have a very dear friend that just barely isn’t subject to this. If her father wouldn’t have gotten the correct papers at some point she would be a “Dreamer” and could be deported to a country she doesn’t know. She has never been in trouble, graduated college and is a productive working member of society. My heart breaks to think if things were slightly different she could be sent back for doing nothing wrong. If any of you think that we are not all immigrants - you are wrong. If you are not Native American or Mexican, you are an immigrant. That’s the funny part; Mexicans were here before America was “discovered.” They were here first. We have immigrated onto their lands. What if they want to kick us out, just because I was born here and my mother was born here and my grandparents doesn’t mean we are legal. WE ALL IMMIGRATED. To the KKK and White Supremacists, newsflash, you are NOT the superior race. America does not have a superior race. All races contribute to this great land of democracy. I know I started out with all the bad things happening right now, but let us take a look at the good things; the stories not highlighted in daily news.

"The suckers lose themselves in the games they learn to play. Children love to sing, but then their voices slowly fade away. People always take a step away from what is true.”

The United States of America is still the greatest country on earth. We still have democracy and the right to vote for who we want in office and many do not exercise that right, but they bitch. If you don’t vote, you can’t bitch, it’s simple. I digress, back to the good stuff. We are racing a generation of children that are woke AF. They won’t sit back and let this country fall to authoritarianism. My 24 year old daughter had a “Save Darfur” sticker on her bedroom door in middle school. When I asked if she understood what it meant (I literally thought she liked the tree) she schooled me on what it was. For those that might not know, Save Darfur is a project of United to End Genocide. This of course was impressive to me. Shamefully and I really mean shamefully, I admit when same-sex marriage was on the California ballot I had my doubts and unfortunately they were selfish doubts, it didn’t have anything to do with thinking it was wrong, because it is not. I selfishly was remembering how long it took to divorce my husband because the family court calendar was so packed and all I could think is just more people to get divorced. I know, I know I’m highly cynical and that was stupid to think like that. My daughter knowing my thoughts, happily reminded me there was a time I couldn’t vote because I was a woman, black people couldn’t vote because they were black, that it was discrimination plain and simple and in her disappointment in me would be tremendous if I did not see that. I did see her point and voted for same sex marriage and it passed that time. I don’t even know how far back my families political involvement goes. When my mother was in grade school, she would go with my grandfather to pass out cards in support of a democratic candidate, they went door to door. I was raised on attending democratic fundraisers as my children and grandchildren have been. My children and grandchildren have discovered you don’t go to my mom’s house for the summer without attending a fundraiser picnic at some point. I’m proud of that fact and I’m proud of the daughter I have raised. After the inauguration this year, she joined a group of co-workers and went to LA to participate in the women’s march. I was so proud of her. During the 2016 campaign, my daughter, granddaughter and I went and saw Hillary when she was near our hometown. My granddaughter was decked out.

My granddaughter was very much a Hillary supporter at her ripe old age of 8. I would ask her why and she would tell me that Trump was horrible. He was mean, nasty and yelled all the time. I agreed with her on that one. Halloween rolled around and we went to get a costume; they have the cutest costumes from being a donut to a princess. Surprisingly she picked the patriotic costume; I questioned if she was sure and she insisted yes, that was the most beautiful costume. Since Halloween was so close to the election, I explained to her that she could remind people to vote when she went to the doors. As she was practicing at my house she gleefully said, “Don’t forget to vote, vote for Hillary not Trump.” I explained she needed to leave the last part off or at least grab the candy first. The little girl is WOKE. As a biracial child, she has experienced racism first hand. But her heart forgives and she knows she’s here for a greater purpose, she tells me all the time. After the Paris attacks in 2015, we were watching the news and she asked why people do such bad things and I didn’t have an answer other than there is evil in the world. We continued to watch and she interrupted and asked me to pause; she asked if we could take a moment and pray for the people in Paris. Yes, we can. Woke AF! This is the example of two different generations that will be making the difference and making sure our democracy stands hold in the face of opposition from Russian traitors like Donald J. Trump. This is our hope!

Now comes the time for a quick update on the Russian Collusion investigation. Honestly, Special Counsel Robert Mueller needs to speed it up so we can ITMFA before he completely tears this country apart. Although, I do try to be patient so Mueller can build the best case possible. Today Donald Trump Jr. will be testifying in closed session before the Senate Committee. The scary part is that I believe an oath means nothing to this family of thieves and liars. He already has lied 4 or 5 times about his meeting with the Russians, so why is an oath going to make him be truthful? I have no doubt this will eventually end in impeachment but the damage being done in the meantime is frightening and seems endless. How much damage can he do you ask? I don’t want to find out, I answer.
