3eb Bike Gang: National Bike Month
May happens to be National Bike month.I did some social media digging to find out a little more about what types of bikes the guys ride.
It’s finally spring and the weather in Iowa is actually nice enough to get out and ride, although I admit I haven’t gone riding at all yet this year. What I love about the guys is that they all love cycling, like me!
Here is what I was able to find out about the bikes that our guys ride!
Last year I asked what kind of bike he rode on Twitter and he said Pure Cycles (@pfcycles). I happened to find this fun article from a couple years ago on the Pure Cycles website: https://www.purecycles.com/blogs/bicycle-news/38754433-third-eye-bike
Just recently he said he switched from a fixed gear to single speed last tour. In case you aren’t up to speed (sorry bad pun) on the difference, single speed has no gears to shift. A fixed gear bike also has no shifting but you also can’t coast, you have to keep your legs moving to keep the bike moving, making it a bit more of a challenge. I totally agree with your choice to switch Alex!
Looking through his Instagram page, he rocks a vintage early 1980’s Schwinn road bike, probably a 10 speed. Even though his bike is as old as I am, it looks pretty fast! Good luck keeping up with this guy!
From the looks of it, Kryz rides a single speed or fixie by Big Shot Bikes. My guess is single speed, gotta be able to ride and fly drones at the same time! My husband used to sell bikes for a living so I handed him my phone so he could look at a bike photo Kryz posted on Twitter. He sent the following tweets without me knowing. At least Kryz had a sense of humor about it!
Some people that ride fixed gear bikes opt out of brakes for the cool factor or the simplicity of less to maintain. Kryz choose the safe option...smart! If pictures aren’t enough for you, Kryz’s Third Eye Blind Life videos on YouTube offer some great footage of the bike gang! These especially:
Both Brad and Stephan don’t go into much detail about their bikes. There’s also not a lot of information from the photos I can find, so I’m taking a guess just by looking at the logo on this bike that he possibly rides Trek? Either a hybrid or cruiser bike. These types of bikes are built for comfort, perfect for riding around town!
Like Brad, I am guessing on specifics on the type and brand of bike Stephan rides. I’d say some sort of hybrid bike. His most recent photo on Twitter was complete with a basket to hold Bruce! She’s going to outgrow that real soon, but the good news is that Stephan can invest in a pet trailer to haul her around. Although if she’s anything like my dog, she might not be too excited about it!
All these bikes making you want to get out and ride? This is a great site to learn more about the different type of bikes and how to choose what’s best for you: Century Cycles Buyers Guide
Whether you’re riding for fun, exercise, commuting to work or school, or even exploring cities while on tour, there’s not a bad reason to ride!
