A Forward Direction
As tempting and easy as it would be for me to write about my past experiences, I want to start this lifestyle journey a bit different - in a forward frame of mind.
The start of 2018 doesn’t seem very promising when it comes to the things going on in the world around us.
However, when I’m trying my hardest to stay optimistic and believe in what is yet to come, Third Eye Blind always gets me to a hopeful frame of mind.
This band makes me feel as if every year is our year - to make a difference, to take chances, to live life how it’s meant to be lived - not in fear of tyranny, or any oppressor at all, for that matter. I can’t help but feel uplifted through certain lyrics. On my worst day a good lyric can still help me put my best foot forward.
When I want to get through a rough time, or maybe the most tedious life tasks, I always look forward to what’s coming. Going through the motions of everyday life it’s always good to look forward to something. It can be as simple as getting off work in the next hour, or as awesome as the vacation I’ll be going on next week. The song “Don’t Give In” does that for me. The title itself is empowering and helps me keep my head up high. When I hear this song, I think of my bright future, and what greatness is yet to come. It reminds me to find my niche and stick with it, even if I’m the only one. It’s a constant reminder to stay true to myself.
Right now I'm really looking forward to my trip to San Francisco. For three days, I can forget about work and all the monotonous day to day bullshit I have to put up with. I get to meet my Idol. I’ll be meeting Stephan Jenkins and telling him, “oh, it’s nice to meet you.” I’m looking forward to forgetting any woes because I will be in awe of the legend, Stephan Jenkins, standing before me.
When I hear “Don’t Give In,” I also think of the feeling I get when we have our gathering moments during a 3eb concert. I think of all the great people I’ve met in these moments. Best of all, I think of the moments and people yet to happen. To me, “Don’t Give In” is not just a personal hope, but also an anthem of sticking together. “Without each other, we're nothing," is a commanding lyric. This song is a letter to us fans to stick together. There’s power in numbers. There’s a future in sticking together for the greater good - as fans, as friends, to march, or testify.
This is it, friends - my 2018 anthem. It will help me to put my best foot forward and to stand by my people. So here's to the fans that became friends, to what we believe in and stand by. Here’s to new music in the making, to our creativity with a great band behind us. To a journey like no other, our journey, together as one.
