Interview: Jon Ault
Third Eye Blind fans have much to be grateful for these days. We have a band that is currently writing songs, doing the music festival circuit and staying super active on socials such as Twitter, and Instagram. This week's expert Jon, connected with us on IG to give us a heads up that his new ink piece had everything to do about the blind. We connected with Jon giving him the stage this Friday as Expert of the Week. Welcome, to the Third Eye Blind Community too Jon. Cheers.
Lifestyle: Third Eye Blind fans are all ages and some are brand new and some have been there since day one. How long have you been "in the blind?":
Jon Ault: 8 years
Lifestyle: So many people have made true friendships through Third Eye Blind and their music. I know that includes you. Any new besties from this year?:
JA: 4 friends I talk to weekly now I've made from going to movie conventions and just seeing the tattoo and sparking a conversation it led to me joining a few 3eb fan made groups
Lifestyle: What's your favorite Third Eye Blind album? And why?:
JA: Ursa Major was the first full album I listen too I heard "Bonfire: and had to listen to the rest of the album the lyrical content of some of the songs and the music itself just hit me like ton of bricks
Lifestyle: If you got to have a sit down (non-date) meal and conversation with any member of the band, who would you choose?:
JA: Stephan I would love to pick his brain on his views of the world, music in general and alcohol.
Lifestyle: Have you had a major point in your life that 3eb has helped you through it and how?:
JA: My first major break up I listened to background and just felt that Stephan knew what I was going through that entire first album has helped me through a lot of hard times
Lifestyle: A lot of Third Eye Blind fans love the music in large part because of Stephan’s lyrics. Why do you think that is? What special qualities are in Stephan’s lyrics that make them more like poetry than those of the average songwriter?:
JA: He doesn't try to dumb down his lyrics for the average person he makes you think about what you just got done hearing.
Lifestyle: What is the greatest thing that being a fan has brought into your life?:
JA: The people that I've been lucky enough to meet and share moments with third eye blind fans are unlike any other fans on this earth everyone is so down to earth and caring and on the same page
Lifestyle: What kind of merchandise do you wish they would sell that they don’t?:
JA: Socks I'd love a pair of falling man socks
Lifestyle: What are your favorite lyrics and why?:
JA: "If nothing else I am myself that's all I have to give." It's so true in every form
Lifestyle: Do you recall the very first 3eb song you have ever heard? If so what song was it? How did It make you feel?: Losing a whole year it made me feel so many different types of emotions in the span of a few minutes
Lifestyle: Is there one particular 3eb concert that stands out to you from all the others? Why?:
JA: My first show was just a magical moment where everything went right in the world and everyone was connected for that hour n half we were all on the same page
Lifestyle: What does living a “3eb Lifestyle” mean to you?: Means being care free and living in the moment.
Lifestyle: What is it about Third Eye Blind that makes you such a fan?:
JA: The fans they are unlike any other fan that I've encounter I love seeing some one with a 3eb tattoo or shirt and just striking up a conversation based purely off the love of the music
Lifestyle: If you found a magic Third Eye Blind Lamp, and a semi-charmed genie popped out, and you could make three Third Eye Blind related wishes, what would they be?:
To meet Stephan so I can thank him for all the music and friends I have made from being a part of this journey.
to take me back to that night at White River so I could relive seeing them for the first time.
Lifestyle: Tell me about your first 3EB show. What was it like?:
JA:It was in Indianapolis Indiana at white river state park the opening band had gotten rained out due to thunderstorms and they made everyone leave the park my friend and I (was his first show too) stood outside the gate under a tin roof for a hour waiting for the venue too open back up we got back in went to the lawn seats got as close to the gate as we could the band had taken the stage and a security guard walks up and says do you guys want in? He gave us the wrist bands and we got in the in the middle of the crowd and they started playing crystal baller it was the perfect moment right place right time no other concert has been able too top it I've had the wristband hanging in my rearview since
Lifestyle: If you could only listen to one song by Third Eye Blind for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?:
JA: "Bonfire!" it was the song that got me hooked on the band it always takes me back to the night when my friend asked if I liked 3eb and I said I've heard a few songs then he puts it on and I heard my duct tape vest and was hooked from there
