VIP All The Way!
I’ve been excited to share this story of one fans journey with 3EB and the power of social media.
Deky, its been fun chatting with you the last few months, and it can’t hurt to know one more charming Irishman.
I hope you get your group photo and I hope we get a chance to meet one day. Cheers! - Janelle Morrow
While on holiday to the States, I stopped by a record store and started sifting through some cds. The guy behind the counter offered to play any for me that I wanted to hear. I asked him to play 5 or 6 albums, Self-Titled being one of them. On first hearing, I knew I loved the sound of the album/band. The lyrical content and melodic riffs caught me straight away.
I first saw Third Eye Blind live on May 15th, 2009 at The House of Blues in Atlantic City. Since then, I’ve seen them one other time in USA, at a bar called Crocodile Rock in Philly and twice in England.
The Crocodile Rock gig in Philly was where I first heard of Mr. Reid. He was introduced on stage by Stephan and I was like, WTF? Unfortunately, I couldn’t worm my way back stage after the gig.
It was through social media where my connection with Kryz began. I was quick to follow him on Instagram, Twitter, etc. When Dopamine was released, it wasn’t available for me to buy on CD in Ireland. Kryz had posted a pic of himself finding his camera lens cover amongst a bunch of signed cds. I replied to this pic asking if someone would be kind enough to buy one for me and send it my way, I’d gladly pay them for it. To my complete surprise, I got a reply from Kryz asking for my address and he posted me a signed copy of the album!
I was over the moon to see Manchester, England included on the Dopamine Tour so, I booked my flight right away! I replied to a Tweet saying I booked my flight and Kryz’s response was, “VIP all the way!” Once again, he came through for me. This was my first time ever to meet the band. I was over the moon to be back stage, having beers with everyone. It was one of the best nights of my life.
The next London gig was August 25, 2016. I waited a little while before going back stage after this one, got a pic with the lads then found myself in a little room with Stephan and two other fans. He was eating Japanese food, we chatted a little, he spoke of having some roots/connections with Scotland then we went in to swap some jokes and have a beer. To this day, I don’t understand how or why I never asked him for a photo... I guess I was star struck!
Kryz has been so good to me and it’s been an unbelievable stroke of luck for me to be somewhat connected to my favorite band ever. I was going to fly to England to see Third Eye Blind, but then Dublin was announced! To say I’m going to get to see them in Dublin soon is something I never thought would ever happen. I just hope, hope, hope I manage to get one good pic with all the members of the band together. I’m hoping to make one big piece for my wall with all my pics, set lists, ticket stubs, etc in it and frame it.
Thank you very much, Kryz, for being so kind and making this journey an amazing one. We may have no idea what those Lucky Charms are about but, I guess us Irish just look out for each other!
