Saturday with Stephan: Biggest Little Fan
This week’s tribute is very special as it comes from not just Ashley Hataway, but also from her son, Noah, who just might be Stephan Jenkins' biggest little fan. Music is very important to Ashley and her children, especially the music of Third Eye Blind. Here is Ashley’s interview with her son about his first concert and experience with the Greatest Rockstar Ever.
It was October 2015, Charleston, South Carolina. Noah and Natalie were finally getting the chance to attend their very first concert ever... and it was Third Eye Blind. I had gotten them meet and greet tickets, and Noah was dressed in his "Trick Owens" outfit, Natalie in her "Future Misfit" tee. We arrived early, and waited anxiously for someone to come get us to go into soundcheck. When the moment finally arrived, Noah's smile lit up the town. He'd waited for his whole little life for this. He had said before, "I want to meet Stephan Jenkins because he's a rocking dude and I wanna be a rocking dude, too." Now was his chance. This is an interview between us on his first experience at a show and having met Stephan.
Ashley: How did you feel when you walked into the stadium and there was Stephan, real and right in front of you?
Noah: I felt kind of happy. I was nervous.
Ashley: What do you remember about meeting him?
Noah: He told me my outfit was cool and he took a picture with me. Stephan let me and Natalie go on stage and look at the instruments with that girl (Stacy).
Ashley: That's kind of exciting! Not many people are offered that opportunity. Why do you think he let you guys do that?
Noah: Because he's my friend.
Ashley: You met some other fans that night. Cody, Renee, and Alexis ... Do you remember hanging out with any of them?
Noah: Yeah! Cody! He's cool.
Ashely: What other cool things happened that night?
Noah: Stephan looked down at me and smiled and made devil horns. *grin* And then we got to sit on the stage while they sang for a little while.
Ashley: People were coming up to you during the show and asking if you were Stephan's son. How did that feel?
Noah: It made me feel heroic.
Ashley: "Motorcycle Drive By” has always been a special song between you and me. So, when you finally got to hear it performed live, and sing along with Stephan and the fans ... what do you remember about that moment?
Noah: How we sang to each other and you cried.
Ashley: It was a special moment for me to be able to share that with you. Thank you for being the greatest rock star everrrrr!!
Noah: Thank you for being my mom.
