3EB INK: Semi-Charmed

I fell in love with the band when I was 11 and the song “Semi-Charmed Life” came out. I had no idea what it meant at 11, but I didn’t care, I loved it. I learned every word. It has always been my go-to request for anything and every situation. Always the first song added to a mix tape, burned CD or playlist.

As I got older, I assigned my own meaning to the song. My husband and I got married six months after a crazy summer fling, moved 3,000 miles away from home in Alabama to San Diego, CA where we slept on the floor in a one-bedroom apartment, sustaining ourselves on mac and cheese. In my mind, we had come a long way and while we weren’t living a charmed life, it was definitely “Semi Charmed” – because we wanted something else and we went for it – fearlessly, together.

I have a ton of other favorite Third Eye Blind songs now, but Semi Charmed will forever be the song that introduced me to my favorite band, and so much more. I finally got the tattoo when I was about 27 and had just moved to Hawaii – I didn’t even tell anyone I was doing it – I just went in on a whim and I’ve never regretted it. At first the tattoo was just colored black and grey, but I felt it needed color and later went back to a different artist and had color added, I asked for a sunset, but the look I got was more of a starburst in sunset hues, which I love.
