Summer Gods Expert Review: Flying the Friendly Skies
When I boarded my plane at LAX for Nashville for the first of four consecutive shows I had expectations. My expectations were to see my favorite band and have the transcendental experience I always have when seeing them live.
What I didn’t expect was to be absolutely blown away four nights in a row with each performance seeming better than the last. I was transcended to a new level, a high I thought I couldn’t come down from any time soon. My God, they were so good and each of them on fire.
When HIGTB played in Raleigh, I literally cried thinking about how's it going to be whenever 3EB quits touring; how's it going to be when I don't know them anymore. Yes, that sounds depressing but it isn't, because it made me receive the incredible gift I was being given at that moment.
This was the night I kept my phone in my purse the entire time. Stephan is right, you can't Instagram this moment. I struggle to even put into words the moment. It will be forever in my heart, forever in my memories. To those that haven’t attended yet, please listen to Stephan: everyone has got a reason to put the phone away. Baltimore was seated and I was behind a very tall guy and his girlfriend and they recorded the entire time. There were times I was watching through his phone because my view was so obstructed. That sucked!
The Summer Gods Tour is a completely new 3EB experience. I cried nightly and ugly cried to 'The Background'. I was so moved that even now I tear up writing this. 3EB has a way to bring out fear, love, regret, joy, gratefulness and faithfulness all during one concert. Wow! What other band can do that? NOBODY!
It was amazing to make new friends and immediately, before or after the show, pop out my phone and show them my name on Facebook and tell them to send me a friend request and I would love to hear their stories for 3EBLifestyle. Shortly after I would receive the friend request and we would briefly discuss how totally amazing the night was. Reaching out to new and old fans and telling them about 3EBLifestyle and how enjoyable the twitter and website is was such a highlight for me. Come, come join!
Merchandise was AMAZING! I bought myself 4 shirts, a hoodie, the falling man hat and picked up a couple of shirts for my two friends back home that won't be able to make the shows this year. We've been seeing 3EB together since around 2006.
I'm writing this on my fight from JFK to LAX returning home to Ventura. I'm depressed to be leaving this tour. I had four more shows but union negotiations took precedence. If I didn't have the July shows in California I'm not sure how I could have gotten on this plane - that's how fucking great the Summer Gods tour sounds!! Third Eye Blind, thank you for three incredible lifetime friendships I have made over a shared love for you, the lyrics that are the soundtrack to my life, and the energy you put out there every time! God Bless 3EB.
